The Votes Are In!

May 23, 2012

You have spoken! The final votes are in on the Audience Choice concert and you all put together a fantastic program for Saturday evening, June 23, at the Academy of Music. It was fascinating to watch the close race among the top choices. There were a few lead changes and some surprising results. In the end, here's what came out on top, and how Yannick has organized them into a compelling concert:

Bach/orch. Stokowski Toccata and Fugue in D minor

Plus, two selections from Fantasia that will be shown with the original film:
Tchaikovsky Selections from The Nutcracker
Dukas The Sorcerer's Apprentice

And after intermission...
Bernstein Symphonic Dances from West Side Story
Stravinsky Suite from The Firebird
Wagner “The Ride of the Valkyries,” from Die Walküre

It makes for a great program and has a little bit of everything: music from ballet, opera, and Broadway; works by Russian, American, German, and French composers; and they all showcase that great "Philadelphia Sound."

And what pieces just missed the cut?
Copland Appalachian Spring Suite
Debussy “Claire de Lune,” from Suite bergamasque
Ravel Bolero
Sorry, better luck next time!

The final surprise will be that the audience gets to choose the encore to close out the program live that evening! Thanks to everyone who voted and for putting together a great program. Now come out and hear your favorite choices with Yannick and the Orchestra!
