All December long, The Philadelphia Orchestra has celebrated the special, joyous, and merry sounds of the holiday season. On Saturday, December 5, Assistant Conductor Lio Kuokman kicked things off with the Christmas Kids’ Spectacular, a Family Concert featuring host Kimberly Schroeder, the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts Choir, and special guest Santa Claus. Handel's timeless Messiah was brought to life December 11-13 with Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin leading an all-star cast of vocalists–soprano Karina Gauvin, mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill, tenor Andrew Staples, bass Matthew Rose, and countertenor Christophe Dumaux–and Philadelphia Voices, a chorus of talented voices from throughout the region especially created for these concerts. Finally, this weekend, audience favorite Bramwell Tovey returns to Philadelphia for The Glorious Sound of Christmas, running now through December 20 (tickets are still available!). Featuring Orchestra soloists, the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia, and another special appearance by jolly old St. Nicholas, the Glorious Sound of Christmas is full of holiday spirit.
