A Cello-bration: Cellists perform with Yo-Yo Ma during PlayIN at SPAC

August 16, 2017

"Music is the connective tissue. It expands our imagination. It’s a magical thing. And these PlayINs are exactly what’s needed.”Yo-Yo Ma during the cello PlayIN at SPAC on August 9

Last week more than 90 cellists of all ages joined the legendary Yo-Yo Ma on stage at Saratoga Performing Arts Center for one of The Philadelphia Orchestra’s signature PlayINs. Check out what some of the participants had to say about the experience.

“It’s kind of cool what cello can turn into ... like Yo-Yo Ma as the soloist, but also in terms of being in the orchestra. It’s nice to hear about The Philadelphia Orchestra’s cellists’ experience.”—Karen Zhu

"Having Yo-Yo Ma there is just—there are no words for that."—Katie Cappola

“This is a rare honor and opportunity.”—Bill Newman

“It’s fantastic. I never thought I’d get to play with Yo-Yo Ma.”—Samuel Morris

While playing alongside Yo-Yo Ma is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for most, PlayINs with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra are held throughout the year in Philadelphia! More information about PlayINs can be found at philorch.org.
